Juliette Clovis is a multidisciplinary French contemporary artist. We wrote about her and her interesting artwork recently, and unusual medium that she uses – Limoges porcelain. Today, we are pleased to introduce you a selection of her latest cutting works: “Frida 2 ” “Metamorphosis 2 ” ” Madone 13 “, “Santa Muerte 2 ” and “Isabelle 10”.
Juliette has worked on this very specific cutting technique for more than 12 years now. She approaches each artwork as a piece of high fashion design on which she spends tens or hundreds of working hours for each piece. She hand cuts and sticks 5 or 6 layers of vinyl one by one onto Plexiglas. In her cutting artworks, Juliette focuses on female identity and the representation of women in modern society. Like for her ceramics, she draws inspiration from a combination of mythological, historical and religious references as well as other ethnic codes to produce her feminine creatures. Symbols are strong and everywhere in Juliette’s universe. As always in her work and whatever the medium she uses, her work is luxurious, precise and mastered. Mostly inspired by the Baroque spirit, the artist mixes references and plays with influences and codes; trying to make harmonious a world made of contrasts and differences.
Her cutting works are permanently exhibited at ArtAngels gallery in Los Angeles. If you are interested in this artist’s work, you can see more on her website.
