Those giant sculptures are an amazing representation of power of a true love and tremendous tragedy that arise from unwilling separation of lovers. The installation is called simply Man and Woman, the sculptures are 8 meters (26 foot) tall, they’re made off still and they move one to another slowly every day starting at 7 pm. After a short embracement of lovers, the sculptures of a man and a woman pass trough each other and separate again. The whole movement lasts 10 minutes and can be seen at the seaside city of Batumi, Georgia. Author of the installation is Georgian sculptor Tamara Kvestidaze who made the design of it in 2007, and the installation has been set in 2010.
The inspiration for this magnificent artwork, was found in the famous novel from 1937 written by Azerbaijani author Kurban Said.
The novel is about tragic love between a Muslim boy, Ali, and Georgian princes, Nino.
Ali and Nino’s story ends tragically by their separation due to the invasion of Soviet Russia.
To this day the identity of the author of this novel, Kurban Said, is not known and nobady knows who he is.
