This Russian Geppetto creates dolls that don’t come to life like Pinocchio, but he can definitely create the illusion that they are alive. These are true pieces of art in a form of dolls that look incredibly life-like. The artist Michael Zajkov uses high skills, knowledge and unique talent while making these high realistic dolls with amazingly natural faces, he dresses them in period garments, so when you look at them, not only do you have the impression they are alive, but also you get a sense that they’re a bit melancholic.
Zajkov is a graduate from Kuban State University of Russia. While studying, he was working in a theater making puppets. In 2013 at the “Art Dolls” expo in Moscow he presented five of his creations and caught worldwide public attention. Some of the materials used in the creation process are French mohair for a dolls’ hair and glass eyes from Germany which are hand painted. In the gallery below you can see some parts of the process among its final results.
