” By using bright and vivid colours and intricate dot work style, the artwork I create becomes a direct expression of my expereince of life. I tend to focus on the more uplifting and beautiful aspects of this world because I think there is already enough darkness. This mindest helps me keep alert. in the moment and try to see the positive aspect of any situation.”
These are the words of Elspeth McLean from Canada. She creates beautiful mandalas on stones and rocks by drawing colorful dots that are arranged in a radiating pattern. This turns the stone to a magnificent work of art. For the artist painting on the stones is a meditative practice and the stones are usually collected from the ocean shore in Canada though originally from Australia, the artist won’t pass pretty pebbles from her homeland. Elspeth paints in a style called ” dotillism ” that’s how she calls it anyway. she developed this style from drawing stippling with a pen. it helps her show the transition between light and dark, pattern and texture. The favours acrylic paints leave a thick layer when they dry out. this gives the stones a more three-dimensional look and feels and its an important part of the process.
