A simple every day activity like driving a car, if you do it backwards, can be a tricky thing, right? Imagine now how much skill does it take to draw an entire image using totally opposite tones than they are in reality. And exactly that Brain Lai is doing in order to get an image which becomes realistic when looked inverted or in negative.
(One of Brian Lai’s negative drawings of wolverine )
Lai drew these two pieces of Wolverine which look like black blotches on white paper, but when you look at them in negative they become impressively refined images even for conventional drawing. When this drawing went viral, some people thought that he’s been copying the negative of the image in order to get this result, but in the video below you can see that that’s not the technique he’s been using. Lai indeed manages to get every tone in exact opposite on the entire image, and that is really amazing, I’m sure you will agree.
