New York based photographer Victoria Will has created a stunning photo series which blends historical and modern photo techniques into one extraordinary vintage portrait of actors and other celebrities. She took these photos at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival in New York. The photos were taken with the tintype method which was how pictures were taken during the 19th century and the way it works is you develop the photos with chemicals by hand in 8 or fewer minutes after you take your shot.
” I have to use an incredible amount of light. Most daguerreotypes in tintypes that you’ve seen historically were daylight and people were sitting still 6, 8, 15 minutes, and I obviously don’t have that kind of time” Will used so much light in her photos that each image took only a fraction of a second.
