Talanted Singapore-based artist Keng Lye work is mostly mistaken for photographs of sea animals, but the truth is these are actually paintings!
The three-dimensional photorealistic paintings are created with paint and resin. The name of the series is ” Alive Without Breath ” which is very fitting to his work. Keng manages to create the 3D effect by basically doing what a 3D printer does, he pours a layer of resin into a bowl and paints it with acrylics, layer by layer revealing more of each creation. You may say that his technique is very similar to Riusuke Fukahori’s, but Keng puts a twist on it and makes it his own. He makes the creatures protrude from the surface, he came up with this technique when he experimented with the drawings of ranchu and octopus. He tried to incorporate a 3-D element and created a small pebble than draw on it making it part of the creatures body, this gave it a much more realistic look. But don’t take our word for it, have look yourself in the images below. Also, don’t forget to visit show support for the artist in these links: Flicker | Deviantart
