Her wrath is fierce and her power is unknown. She is mother nature and now a snippet of her strength is on display.
Italian sculptor Lorenzo Quinn got the idea to create a statue of the elements, personified as a woman, after seeing the destruction brought about by hurricanes in Thailand and the southern part of the United States.
The model is known as the ‘Force of Nature’ and features a faceless woman holding the world between a band. The Earth is being hurled around helplessly while the strong force is in complete control.
Quinn created the image to exhibit humans’ vulnerability when it comes to nature. The artist hopes to shed light on our false sense of security and help us be better prepared for disaster.
“After having seen the ravaged coast of Thailand and the Hurricane that affected the Southern States I decided to create a sculpture dedicated to Mother Nature,” says Quinn.
“This would be reminiscent of the early statues made as peace offerings to the gods in the hope of quenching their anger.”
