He’s got Down Syndrome, but opened a Million Dollar Company while spreading happiness all around him. His name is John Lee Cronin and he’s 21 years old. His company is named John’s Crazy Socks.
John always loved socks. Not all kinds of socks, but the ones that match his mood and personality. He always knew he was going to start a business one day, so he decided to make his love of socks a business. He just did it: Turned his passion in work and he seems to really enjoy it.
In December 2016, John together with his dad opened an online store. The name? John’s Crazy Socks. It is a pick-and-pack business, meaning they just distribute socks made by other companies.
“We seek those socks that will make a difference, that will make you smile or laugh, that will tug at your heart, that will add some zest to your life. We are all about socks that will matter to you, that you will love and cherish”, is written on John’s Crazy Socks website.

After a year or so, the company had more than 42,000 orders and made nearly $2 million in revenue. Their current offer contains 1,500 different kind of socks. The company’s success comes from focusing on three solid principles: provide hope and inspiration, give back and offer excellent customer service.
“We hire people with disabilities. (It shows) here’s what people with disabilities can do if you give them a chance”, says Mark Lee Cronin, John’s father. The company donates 5 percent of its profits to the Special Olympics.
And they ship every single order with love. “Every package gets a thank you note from me. We treat people the way we want to be treated. That means pay attention, treat people with respect and dignity, be transparent and honest. We want to be of service to others. The better we treat you, the better we serve you, the more successful our business will be”, says John.
