Getting perfect black and white photography is not an easy thing as it seems. When done right the B&W photos will have a striking effect that will leave the observer speechless. But not every black and white picture can look good, you know when you look at a photo and you say ” hey, this photo will look amazing in black and white “. Well, sometimes it works the other way around and photos that are without colors will look better in monochrome or full colors. To get the perfect black and white shot. follow these tips:
a. Think about the shadows.
When working without colors, light and shadows become much more visible, so make sure you think about that before taking your shot, here’s an example, why not create a strong contrast between dark and light, remember this rule: The darker your shadows are, the brighter your light will be.
b. Think about focus and texture
When you take a regular color shot you have a rainbow of colors that leads the eye when looking at it, with black and white photos you don’t. But you do have shapes and curves that can fill the void, try and think about it next time you plan a photo shoot.
c. Try and reach high clarity
When looking at colored photos you see that they have a wide variety of shades to work with, with black and white photos they look best when there’s a clear and strong black and a clear white. If you don’t have that you end up with grey and not so clear images that are just confusing.
