Pegasus was born at a backyard litter breeder and was given a very poor chance to life due to the bad conditions of the litter she was born to, almost all of the other Great Dane puppies from her litter died from various complications that would cause problems for Pegasus. No one could say for sure how long will she live, but it was already predicted that she would go blind and deaf
But one person – Dave Meinert decided to adopt her when she was only 4 weeks old, everything they told him didn’t matter ” For me, she had already been born. Nothing was going to change that, by rescuing her, at least i could be certain she’d be looked after and not discarded or left to die like many of these dogs when the problems start ” The dog had time at that moment, so he decided to capture each moment they have left on camera
So for five months Meinert filmed Pegasus walking on a treadmill so she could learn how to get exercise despite her disabilities, he also got help from a friend who is an animal behaviorist named Kieron Piper. She was incredible with Pegasus! ” Teaching her to do this would not have been possible without her, as a filmmaker and commercials director I am used to challenges, but this was far the hardest thing I have ever done “
The result is an amazing time-lapse video that shows the will of one gorgeous and loved dog
” Everyone warned me not to get her, and that it would be supporting backyard breeding”
” Even though I spent a lot of time educating myself on the problems, I didn’t want to dwell on them. I want to fond a way to record and celebrate the healthy, happy times, long may they last “
We are happy to report that as of now Pegasus is still alive and happily enjoying life, she even made a friend, another Great Dane who she likes to sleep wrapped around
