Every wild animal has it’s own special environment that it occupies to survive, and the mountain goats has one of the weirdest and hard-to-reach environment of them all – steep cliff faces. That’s crazy right? well the cliffs they spned most of their lives on have many benefits if you think about it: they offer protection from land-bound predetors, foraging and access to mineral licks. Also in those steep cliffs there are harsh winds that clear snow and expose the hardy grasses that the goats love to eat and even exposes mineral salts they love to lick. Some of the images of goats you see below are of Rocky Mountain goats which are technically a goat-antelope species, but the other goats are true goats like the alpine ibex or the Chamonix. these goats have special adaptions that allow them to navigate through the steep mountains with ease, their hooves are cloven, which means they can spread their body weight and grasp the ground.
