A family in Finland has rescued and adopted an injured squirrel they found 6 years ago. The grandmother of the family was the first to spot the squirrel and thought it was dead. but when she tried to move it off the road she saw it was still alive, she handed it to her family for safe keeping and nursing. The squirrel was blind in one eye and was unable to be freed back to the wild. so they kept it and it lived with them from 2007 to 2013 – read more below
” When it seemed it recovered, we tried releasing it back to the wild. But it fell from a tree and hit a rock ”
” He survived the fall, but we saw his eye will never heal completely and he would not survive on his own ”
” We named him Arttu, which is pretty much the Finish version of Arthur ”
” We were very surprised how ‘ tame ‘ he became ”
” He liked to have playful ‘fights’ with our hands like cats do. And he was smart enough to know not to bite to hard ”
” He also liked to take naps in our pockets ”
” He even recognized his ‘family’ and became very wary if there were strangers around ”
” We fed him nuts, fruits, berries and mushrooms ”
Even when they let him go, he always came back ” he stayed there for a while and then jumped back to my shoulder ”
” Squirrel’s claws grow all the time so we had to occasionally cut them because he couldn’t wear them out naturally ”
