A talented Japanese designer and an Italian shoemaker have created a new and exciting design of athletic footwear. They drew inspiration from the minimalist art form and cloth wrapping to form a basis of a flexible shoe that will fit any foot type and size.
Masaya Hashimoto who used to work with Vibram, the creators of the foot-shaped FiveFingers shoes. you know, those shoes with the articulated toes. They created the Furoshiki shoe series with the wrapping soles that will fold around your feet without laces. How you ask? They use a simple hook and loop system – Genius!
The specially engineered gripping system that they developed keeps the soles in their place and thus making the shoe perform just like any other shoe but with less weight and materials you don’t need anyway.
The shoes they created has a number of distinct advantages such as: more flexible sizing compared to other shoes, easier packing and the ability to skip socks all together, here’s words from Vibram ” The concept for this type of footwear was derived from the Japanese custom of packaging items by wrapping them in cloth fabric. Furoshiki is the only sole on the market that wraps around the entire foot. Because the upper is constructed with stretch fabric, it will anatomically fit nicely on any foot type and the hook and loop closure system allows for a quick and easy fit. ”
