“Volume button for your ears.” How does this seem to you? The first thing on my mind was picturing me working at the airport, not bothered at all with all the noises around, cause I got the button on the mute. Pretty cool right. And the best part – it’s a real thing now!
Dutch startup Knops designed a good-looking device that works as a volume button for your ears and you can now get full control of the surrounding sounds wherever you are and whatever they’re like. Especially it’s convenient for people who are often disposed to loud noises and it can prevent hearing damages. The device was designed by musicians, no surprises there.
Background noise can be adjusted by turning the simple knob on the side of the knops.

“Instead of using electronics to try and synthesise something artificial, we’re taking the actual sound waves that come into your ear, and modifying them,” says Arjen de Jong, founder and head of technology at Knops, who has a PhD in acoustics.
