Remember Vespa scooter? Of course! Or, should I say, the question is formalized the wrong way because the cute little charming scooter never left actually and everybody knows it and loves it today as years before in 60’s or 70’s. So, Italian manufacturer Piaggio knows how to make a strong everlasting brand, and now they’re coming out with a fresh new product that it’s nothing like we ever seen before… and that requires our attention, don’t you agree?!
The newborn sibling of Vespa is called Gita (pronounced jee-a, which means a short trip in Italian ). The Gita robot can help you also like Vespa to easily navigate through a city jam, but it isn’t made for transport of humans. So, what is Gita?! Gita is a robot cargo carrier on two wheels capable of hauling up to 40 pounds (18 kg) of goods while following a human operator or moving autonomously through a mapped environment.
Its design is absolutely adorable and I can already sense it will be adored by people almost like cute robot helper from Star Wars r2-d2. Gita shape is ball-like and dominated color is blue. It can follow you around the city at bicycle speeds – up to 22 mph (35 km/h), which is a pretty fast fellow traveler, you will agree.
The intention of the firm with this product is to free people from a dependence on automobiles. The firm describes Gita as
“an intelligent and nimble cargo vehicle designed and engineered with the same attention to safety, braking, balancing and vehicle dynamics that you would expect of a high-performance motorcycle.”
“The transportation and robotics industries tend to focus on optimizing tasks and displacing labor. We are developing products that augment and extend human capabilities, instead of simply seeking to replace them,” says Jeffrey Schnapp, CEO of Piaggio Fast Forward.
