In most families I’ve known, there’ve been two completely different types of parents. There’s the fun parent and then there’s the more serious, nurturing parent. For most heterosexual couples the mom is the nurturer and the dad is the goofy, fun one. In gay couples, it could go either way.
In any case, everyone has their own style of parenting. I believe, to have good balance, there’s got to be one nurturer and one fun parent. Any other way would just be boring.
Above all, what really matters is that you love your kids and you feed them and clothe them. And do make sure they get a bath after they get done playing in the dirt. But if that’s not your style, by all means, send your kid to school covered in dirt. As long as they’re happy and healthy, nothing else matters.
Here are some pretty funny examples of the difference between mom and dad. In every single one of these, mom is the most concerned with safety. Dad is the one most concerned with having fun. Like I said before, both parenting styles are equally important.
