A couple of years ago, Beth came to her friend Blake Morrow which is a Toronto-based photographer and illustrator and she had an interesting idea
” She came to me before she had gastric-bypass surgery asking if I’d do a portrait of her, combining a before and after vibe “
After she told Morrow her idea, he started thinking and planning his vision on how to capture it
” I was immediately obsessed with the idea , I love before and after stuff, be it home re-dos or weight loss comparisons, creating this imaginary with Beth was a chance to add to that lore, but to try something different “
And The Beth Project was born, it’s a before and after photo series with Beth surgery
With both Beth and Morrow being huge sci-fi geeks, the inspiration for the photos came easily to them
It took two years and Beth lost 150 pounds during this project, but the result is very creative and inspiring
Although like most photo shoots, Morrow admits Photoshop was used, but he didn’t alter Beth’s body in any way ” I was determined to use it in a way that would encourage and inspire people while being true to the heart of my subject “
Morrow adds that the main goal of the project is to capture what makes Beth unique ” Some of the images are dramatic and theatrical, while others go for a gritty photo-realistic vibe, but they’re all about Beth being herself, even while taking on characters to play “
” I was honored that Beth was so open and willing to be herself while taking on these character scenarios to act through in front of my lens “
Beth, you are an awesome lady!
