Kat Musgrove had only 30 days left to find £140,000 so her two-year-old son Kian could fly to the U.S and have his neuroblastoma treated. She was struggling to raise the necessary funds and the revolutionary treatment for her son’s rare disease seem lost, until an anonymous donor from Luxembourg stepped in and donated £40,000
The 27 years old mother from Newcastle said, ” I can’t believe it, there was a note with the money saying ‘ good luck to your son’ I still can’t get my head around it. I keep looking to make sure the money is actually there ”
And with that note, the little boy will fly to Michigan to get his treatment on March 31
Kian was first diagnosed with the stage four neuroblastoma cancer in 2013. The doctors found 27 tumours around his kidney’s and in his bones. He went through chemotherapy and a couple of operations but still the doctors said there is an 80% chance the cancer will return. The new treatment which is called DFMO tries to prevent the cancer from returning by stopping a certain cell that creates all the neuroblastoma cells.
The catch is that this new treatment must be started no later than 120 days after the patient has undergone their last bout of immunotherapy and Kian finished his almost 100 days ago – that’s cutting it close. Ms Musgrove who was booking the flight tickets said ” I’m so excited by what has happend, people have just been incredible”
” I want this for Kian so much and I want this to work so badly. But I’m also scared because I’m flying over there alone not knowing what the future is going to be like ”
Kian’s family will continue to raise money for “relapse therapy ” in case the new treatment won’t work and the cancer returns, they try to raise £500,000. Kian’s mother added ” I just hope this works for my little boy ”
