This map shows 151 countries and their happiness level , the green countries deliver long and happy lives for their citizens and the red ones ..well , not so much

The map was compiled using data from the latest Happy Planet Index ( HPI ) , which is a global measure of sustainable wellbeing

The HPI claims they measure what matters rather than wealth , a happy and long live is the basic

South american countries were the best , aswell as New Zealand , Mexico , India , Norway , Algeria and Madagascar

UK was ranked number 41 , France at 50 , Spain 62 , Canada at number 65 , Australia at 76 and USA at only 105

The HPI puts the idea that happiness is not necessarily about wealth . but instead it is living long lives with with a high experience of well being

So the idea is that if a country had to be completely self-sufficient , you would notice that most of the developed world would be unable to do that without losing a lot of its population first , that is why high income nations rank lower

The three component measure are : Life expectancy , the level of well-being experienced and a ecological footprint

Chad and Botswana have the worst scores in Africa while Algeria and Madagascar have the highest
