It’s always tough to find out your son has a condition or illness, so when Utah-based art director and photographer Alan Lawrence found out his son Wil had Down Syndrome, he knew he had to do something. He noticed that when Wil was crawling he was lifting his legs and flap his arms and it reminded him similar motions of flying. This thought would eventually develop into the series ” Will Can Fly “.
Wil is the fifth child in the Lawrence family and in the series his dad would lift him up in the air and hold him before taking a picture, later he would edit himself out making it seem Wil is flying in various locations and scenes throughout the day. After he posted some images online the whole family got positive responses and the series went viral ” These photos of Wil flying have taken on a special meaning for me as I think about the unique challenges Wil is going to face growing up. I hope to teach him that even with his disabilities he can do anything he puts his mind to ”
