The Dark Side Of Happiness: Artist Designs Parody of Disneyland
It’s the scariest place on earth!
A street artist who goes by the name of Banksy conceptualized what he thought Disneyland would look like if it were a scary theme park instead of a happy place.
The artist changed the names of various rides and even went so far as to switch the name of the attraction from Disneyland to Dismaland.
Blanksy had the pleasure of seeing his dream, or rather nightmare, come to life.
Dismaland opened its doors to thousand earlier this year. The theme park sits on the abandoned Tropicana swimming resort in the United Kingdom, and will only remain open for five weeks.
Although its operation is short, fans of Disney are excited to see what Blanksy had in mind.
Dismaland’s brochure describes the attraction as “a chaotic new world where you can escape from mindless escapism.”
“In place of a gift shop we have a library, well, we have a gift shop as well…This event contains adult themes, distressing imagery, extended use of strobe lighting, smoke effects and swearing. The following items are strictly prohibited: knives, spraycans, illegal drugs, and lawyers from the Walt Disney corporation.”
The humorous side of the park is what has drawn the masses.
Many come to experience something outside of the ordinary Magic Kingdom that Walt’s company creates.
Even the way that this large attraction was built is different from Disney.
Officials did not constantly remind consumers that the park was being built.
In fact, Banksy assisted in bringing his dreams to life in the absence of a bavy sitter.
This attraction, with various signs rides, proves that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Although Banksy has received recognition for his work, this is the first time that the masses can see his thoughts displayed in this new theme park.
