Mahmoud Tammam is an architect and graphic designer based in Alexandria, Egypt. He has been cherishing love for letters and words of the delicate Arabic language and decided to design a series of word manipulation which celebrates his language in the most delightful way. He called this project a “personal challenge”. He explains for Bored Panda-
“I manipulate Arabic words and transform them into their meaning, and I made a total of 40 illustrated words.”
In every picture, he included the pronunciation of these Arabic words to help you sound them out. So, if you don’t know Arabic and you would like to discover a bit of it, Tammam’s illustration are the perfect and fun way to start with! Bicycle, cat, octopus and many other words in Arabic are waiting for you to be discovered.
Arabic characters in every of these words have particular sloping curves and dots which Tammam used cleverly and transformed into shapes of a particular object or an animal. What Tammam has actually done here is a bridge to span language barriers. The Illustrations are very elegant and transition between Arabic words and their meaning is very smooth and clear to the observer.
