These attractive, blonde, blue-eyed triplets have set a goal for this summer: to finish together the Rio 2016 Olympic marathon, set personal bests and to cross the finish line with a smile. Great goal, indeed! If you wish to support the sisters in realizing this goal you can join a Facebook page called ‘Trio to Rio‘, where they’ve already gathered a massive support from all over the world.
Leila, Liina and Lily Luik are coming from the southern Estonian university town of Tartu. They are identical triplets and 30-years-old. These sisters by taking the 26.2-mile race are making history; they are the first identical triplets to compete against each other in the 120-year history of the Olympic Games.
The triplets get a lot of support and have been in the spotlight even before the Games started, they are very determined, but still they are not favored to end up on the podium at Rio according to their personal bests. When they were asked about winning a medal all three agrees that it would be a surprise: ‘It would be great . . . it’s like our dream, and we know that we have to live in reality. ‘It is very hard to compete against the Kenyan runners. ‘We are not at the same kind of level as they are now, but in two or three years we can do that.’
One more thing the sisters agree about – family matters! They support each other emotionally and even in race tactics, such as taking it in turns to act as wind breakers.
Go Trio!
